5 Broken Carry Heroes in 7.40 Meta

Man, all that progress to keep Windranger out of the game has been reversed in 7.40. Her Agility gain increase means she farms a bit better when she isn’t using Focus Fire and it also means more damage when fighting since she is a universal attribute hero. She was already a decent Pos 4 hero with Diffusal Blade but now back as a Pos 1 means she can farm up her Maelstrom, proc Chain Lightning a bit more with the better Agility and take some early-game fights to secure map-control before resuming the rest of her build: Mjollnir, Dragon Lance and Black King Bar. It seems odd that Mjollnir would be good on Windranger who has max attack speed with Focus Fire but don’t forget that the Chain Lightning on Mjollnir bounces more and deals higher damage than the Maelstrom version.

With the removal of Diffusal Blade working for Illusion heroes, Anti-Mage starts to stand out a lot more as his mana break does work with his Manta Style. Evidently this means that he becomes a de facto pick when dealing with jumpy mana intense meta heroes like Medusa, Morphling, Queen of Pain and Storm Spirit.

Anti-Mage really excels at farming the map and the latest map-changes nerfing the triangle means that a hero like him, who can shorten the distances between jungle camps, gives him an edge over other carries in terms of farming and item timings.

Not much has changed for Drow Ranger. Her early-game is a bit better with higher slows from her Frost Arrows which gives nice effectiveness when harassing in lane. We still max Multishot for fast farming. Manta for split-push and farming, dispels and bonus damage in team-fights. Pike for repositioning and shutdown against gap-closers like Dawnbreaker and Slardar.

So basically Drow is coming up because a lot of the heroes that would rush down Drow Ranger have now been nerfed: Dragon Knight, Abaddon, Nature’s Prophet and Ursa. What’s more is she lanes fantastically against a lot of strong Offlaners like Slardar, Timbersaw, Mars and Legion Commander. So she’s just a good hero at the right time and place for the start of 7.40.

Juggernaut has been one of my best heroes when playing and he still remains the best in 7.40. In terms of nerfs, everything about his early game has been diminished. The increased mana cost of Blade Fury means you aren’t securing as many early-game kills during the laning stage and his lowered level 1 damage and base agility means he’ll have trouble last-hitting, especially since they increased the cost of Magic Wand and Branches, resulting in your starting items now giving you as much damage and stats.

But beyond that, he’s still an absolute monster in the later parts of the game. By 30 minutes, you should have items like Battle Fury, Butterfly and Manta Style and combined with your facet: Blade Form. The reason why Blade Form is so popular is because it provides bonus percentage-based movement and agility and that works with your Manta Style: extra movement speed for you and your illusions, extra agility, thus damage and attack speed and thus also insane damage with your Omnislash if you use Blink Dagger to initiate. All this means that Juggernaut can end games relatively quickly and with unbeatable damage.

If you were still playing Dota up until the end of 7.39e, you probably spotted Weaver becoming more regularly picked. The hero can be played very aggressive with a rush to Desolator or can be played with better scaling through an early Maelstrom. Both builds rely on Aghs Shard to help Weaver flash-farm jungle camps very quickly to then reach his larger items like Daedalus.
