It seems that the next logical step for a lot of people in the world of videography is to purchase a cinema camera - something from the likes of RED, ARRI etc. I'm definitely guilty of looking at cameras that I'll realistically never be able to justify buying for the work that I'm doing currently, and with the next generation of mirrorless cameras becoming so capable with their video features, it sort of makes me wonder whether cinema cameras are becoming obsolete (for the indie filmmakers and small corporate videographers like me).

DISCLAIMER - I definitely think cinema cameras have their place and they're still essential tools for larger teams and bigger productions. They are superior in many ways for a lot of use cases, however I'm coming from the angle of a small one-man team with projects that are always below £5000.

The Panasonic S5 and other Lumix bodies are now capable of shooting 6K Raw Video externally via HDMI, either outputting ProRes RAW or Black Magic RAW depending on the users preference.

In the eyes of the Lumix S5 - Full Frame 6K RAW video for under £2000, you SERIOUSLY can't go wrong here, and I can't see myself ever needing anything more... especially since i've only just started to utilise the RAW capabilities within the last few months.

A lot of cameras are now beginning to unlock the RAW video world to the masses, such as the Sony FX3, FX6, and of course the new Canon mirrorless cameras too.
You can now produce amazing quality that will be loved and respected by clients with varying budgets, so realistically, does that mean that we should stop looking towards cinema cameras and start to realise that the camera world is changing, arguably for the better.
