Towards end of June the female beaver is out early in the evenings and starts feeding straight away. Her teats look very prominent which shows she is having kits in the lodge . She has started to bring fresh branches back to the lodge to get the babies used to their diet of leaves and bark. This is the time when the kits start coming out for their first swimming lessons and to discover the river and its edges. And surely enough we saw the first tiny beaver kit - or kits? - emerging from the lodge, even if it was just for a few shy moments .
Is there anything more relaxing than watching the female beaver foraging in the warm rays of a summer evening , just a few meters away from you on the other side of the river?
