US President Donald Trump hosted a dinner at the newly renovated Rose Garden at the White House for over two dozen top technology executives. Trump described them as "high IQ people." Leaders of various technology giants, such as Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Apple CEO Tim Cook, were also in attendance. During the meeting, Trump announced that the US would soon impose a "fairly substantial tariff" on semiconductors coming into the country, after previously threatening a 100% levy on the chips. He also showcased research on artificial intelligence and spoke about the investments being made in the country. Tesla CEO and former Trump aide Elon Musk was not invited to the dinner. First Lady Melania Trump also led a meeting of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education before the dinner, stating that AI innovation was boosting US GDP growth and predicting that the technology would become the single largest growth category during the current administration.
