For the first time in its history , India has a President from a tribal community and for the first time, a tribal woman has won the National Award as the best female singer. This is indeed a proud moment for our nation which had always been looking down on the tribal people as the lowest in social status.
As a musical tribute to these great achievements, we are presenting a tribal song of the Irular community of Veliyankadu Panchayat, in Karamadai Block, of Tamil Nadu. Original music and traditional instruments of the Irular Community have been used and the visuals shot within their hamlet.
This song was part of a documentary made on the survival of the Irular community in Karmadai Block of Coimbatore District and the continuation of the education of their children during the COVID 19 pandemic and prolonged lockdown following it.
