In this video I take a deep look at the new Leica M EV1, Leica’s first M-mount camera with an EVF only and no rangefinder window. Many Leica users keep asking: Why would Leica build a camera like this? And more importantly: Who is the Leica M EV1 really for?
Instead of diving into specs, I focus on the bigger idea behind this camera. I compare the M EV1 with the Leica M11, M10, SL3, and Q3, and I explain why the EV1 is not an “M11V”—but the beginning of a whole new camera line.
I also walk through my own thought process: how an SL3 with an M lens can technically behave like an M camera, why shooting with an EVF feels completely different than shooting with a rangefinder, and why the photographic experience is still the real heart of the M system.
This video is for Leica photographers, Hasselblad users, professionals, beginners, storytellers, film shooters, hybrid shooters, and everyone who loves photography and video. Even if you’re not a Leica user, this camera raises interesting questions about design, user experience, and the future of mirrorless photography.
