Masterclass with pianist Laszlo Gyimesi on the most essential elements of piano technique: scales, arpeggios, double notes, chords and trills. Emphasizing on fullest flexibility, relaxed weightiness and adequate control of the arm weight and if necessary, the weight of the whole body.
According to J. S. Bach, the thumb is the most important finger and he was one of the first to use it extensively. It leads the hand in playing direction and slides over the white keys when connecting positions. The thumb determines the lateral movements (opening and closing) of the hand and is a connecting link between the positions of the scale. The correct employment of the thumb is vital for playing even, fast, leggiero scales.
