We’re In A Sweet Spot: Standard Chartered CEO Sees Strong Credit Outlook

The CEO of Standard Chartered says he sees no signs of stress in the bank’s portfolio ahead of its earnings later this week.
“These are probably one-offs, but the credit cycle is still alive,” CEO Bill Winters said when asked about the collapse of US firms First Brands Group and Tricolor Holdings in an interview on Bloomberg Television in Riyadh, where he is attending Saudi Arabia’s Future Investment Initiative.
“We’re in a sweet spot: interest rates are high enough to keep things moving, not so high as to stymie growth,” he said.
Winters added that tariffs have been neutral for the bank’s business. “I’m very positive for the rest of this year and into next year,” he said, citing a robust credit environment and increasing trade.
