Juliana Carver - Bone Marrow Transplant Failed - Cancer Back for 8th Time.

Cancer has attacked Juliana for the 8th time. We got the preliminary PET results--it's bad--the entire lining of her right lung lit up along with several lymph nodes in her chest (which is causing the pericardial effusions) and a tumor wrapped around the blood vessels that supply her right kidney (causing the elevated creatinine). They are going to have a meeting and discuss our options (more chemo, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and/or genetic mapping of the newest cancer cells to look for mutations that may respond to other cancer drugs she hasn't had) then we'll meet again, probably next week, to make a treatment plan. They are also recommending we call in hospice to help with palliative care--which we can do while she is still in active treatment.
I sobbed most of the afternoon including on Juliana's lap, in front of the doctor and down the hall from her room. Tonight, I apologized to Juliana for sobbing so much. She looked at me and said, "It's understandable" and then patted my hand.
Back in 2011/2012 were were told something similar when Juliana had cancer for the 3rd time. The cancer was in her pelvis and chest. She beat it back then.
She does NOT know about hospice and, in her mind, she's going to beat cancer...again because she's "not a giver-upper."
As her Daddy, when I heard the doctors give almost no hope...I can't imagine my life without Juliana. All I want to do is cry and cry.
As a family we are going to try to be positive and optimistic around Juliana. She has been so strong since she, first, got cancer in 2007 when she was only five years old. We owe her to try to be strong too.

Pediatric cancer is EVIL!! It takes away children from the joy of childhood and replaces that joy with pain. I can't express to you the pain that Tammy and I are feeling over this news that the bone marrow transplant did not work for Juliana. It hurts beyond my ability to describe.
