From Subsistence to Commercial: Mr Kamara’s household cultivated over 500ha through FSRP support

In Tonkolili District, the Minister met with Mr. Bisman Kamara, a rice farmer at Mamuntha, cultivating over 500 hectares (more than 1,200 acres) of rice, with projected yields of around 4 metric tons per hectare — equivalent to 80 bags per hectare. Transitioning from smallholder to large scale reflect the support provided by FSRP under the Feed Salone initiative, contributing to the Sierra Leone’s rice- self-sufficiency
Impressed by his success, Minister praised Mr Kamara encouraging him to expand more with support from Ministry Food System Resilience Program. Noting that his Ministry’s is committed to supporting farmers with combined harvesters to boost productivity and prevent post harvest losses. Inspiring other farmers, Mr Kamara encouraged Sierra Leoneans to view agriculture as a viable and profitable business. He commended the Ministry and its partners for providing the support that have made such large-scale farming possible.
