Worksheets have their place, but they can be used much more interactively. Add in a dialogue, a timed race, a running dictation…basically anything that will make them much more communicative.
This is a simple clothes sort activity I did recently in a one-to-one class. We had a stop watch on my phone and he was racing to find the clothes to add to his worksheet (from my Smartest Giant in Town resources).
