23 percussionists have joined together to commission Halim El-Dabh to compose a new work for solo vibraphone. I traveled to Kent, Ohio to spend a day working with Halim on the piece. The following morning we headed out to his backyard to enjoy the ambient soundscape and talk about vibration, composing, color music, his new work for vibraphone, and a thousand other things. This video includes excerpts from that conversation as well as footage from the previous day.
The premiere performances of the vibraphone piece will take place during late 2009 and early 2010.
