GT2024 French Alps Motorbike & camping trip - Part 1

In 2024, the 3 pensionado’s (and former seismic workers) Gerrit Schol (64), Peter Allitt (64) and Graham Kirk (57) mustered in France for the Grand Tour 2024 (GT2024). The GT is our annual biking & camping trip over the most meandering roads and "goat tracks" I can find on the map while avoiding all highways.

GT2024 was planned and executed through the French Alps from the end of May until mid-June. The tour extended into Italy and Switzerland and all 3 of us were equipped with a GoPro Hero. This video was compiled from 29 hours 2 minutes and 17 seconds video coverage recorded in 2090 files at 50 fps!

Some (very) high passes were closed due to excessive snow, but we still managed to conquer 20 of them and went through quite some famous and superb gorges. Continuous meandering of roads and some scary climbs/descents (again) made this tour one of the best tours I ever did.
On the toughest day we worked hard with 7.7 bike direction changes per kilometre. It is exhausting on my big Yamaha XV1900, but that is certainly an integral part of the fun and enjoyment I get out of these tours.

From home to home I covered 5,296 kms, and hit 23,135 bends, twists, corners and hairpins this year. But all statistics are mentioned in the video.

And for sure we will go biking & camping again in 2025!!!
