The protagonist, Crash Bandicoot, is a genetically enhanced experimental animal enslaved by Dr. Neo Cortex and his assistant N. Brio to lead an army of anthropomorphic animals in their quest to conquer the world.

Crash manages to escape, but Cortex has taken his girlfriend Tawna, another bandicoot, for further experiments. Crash sets out to rescue her with the help of the magical Aku Aku mask and stop Neo Cortex's experiments.
