Meaning and Breakdown
This mantra is a salutation to the Divine in the form of Krishna, acknowledging his role as the ultimate protector.
Om Krishnaya Vasudevaya: I bow to Krishna, the son of Vasudeva.
Haraye: To Hari, the one who takes away (steals) sorrows and sins.
Paramatmane: To the Supreme Soul/Self.
Pranatah Klesha-nashaya: To the one who destroys the sufferings (kleshas) of those who surrender to him.
Govindaya Namo Namah: Salutations again and again to Govinda (the protector of all beings).
Spiritual Significance
In Vedic philosophy, the five kleshas (afflictions) are ignorance, egoism, attachment, aversion, and the fear of death. Reciting this mantra is believed to help the seeker overcome these mental and spiritual hurdles, bringing a sense of surrender and calm.
