This fun crochet stitch combination would make beautiful handbags, bed spreads, table runners, sweaters, blankets, etc. The stitch pattern is a two row repeat and you need a multiple of 8 chs + 6 to create any size crochet project you wish. The full written instructions are further below. ⬇⬇

U.S. single crochet (sc) = U.K. double crochet (dc)
U.S. half double crochet (hdc) = U.K. half treble (htr)
U.S. double crochet (dc) = U.K. treble (tr)

ABBREVIATIONS:

FC - foundation chain (starting chain)
ch(s) - chain(s)
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
fpdc - front post double crochet
bpdc - back post double crochet
YO - yarn over
st(s) - stitch(es)
sk - skip

SPECIAL STITCHES:

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc) - YO, insert hook from the front of your work around the dc from the previous row from right to left. YO and draw back through, pulling up tall. YO and draw through 2 loops, YO and draw though 2 loops.

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc) - YO, insert hook from the back of your work around the dc from the previous row from right to left. YO and draw back through, pulling up tall. YO and draw through 2 loops, YO and draw though 2 loops.

WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS:

FC: Ch a multiple of 8 + 6.

Row 1: In the 5th ch from hook, dc. Dc in next ch, * sk 2 chs, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next ch, sk 2 chs, dc in next 3 chs * Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), bpdc around each of next 2 sts, * sk 2 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in ch-1 sp, sk 2 sts, bpdc around each of next 3 sts * Repeat from * to * across. For last dc, work regular dc in turning ch, not bpdc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), fpdc around each of next 2 sts, * sk 2 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in ch-1 sp, sk 2 sts, fpdc around each of next 3 sts * Repeat from * to * across. For last dc, work regular dc in turning ch, not fpdc. Turn.
