Sonny Knowles is one of Ireland's best loved entertainers with a career in showbiz lasting 50 years. He's known as Ireland's King of Cabaret but the Dubliner actually started off as a saxophone player and only by chance became a singer. He first showcased his talent with the legendary Earl Gill Band where his singing style attracted the interest of the emerging showbands and he was eventually asked to front one of the leading groups at the time The Pacific Showband. Sonny spent the best part of the 1960s travelling the high roads and by-roads of Ireland playing to packed ballrooms from Cork to Carndonagh.
