ARTIST: Tiffany & Co., known for luxury home goods, employed more than 500 artisans in its silver division and was the first company in America to adopt the 925/1000 silver standard, indicating the amount of pure silver in parts per thousand.
LOOK FOR: The inscription on the tray, which reads:
"Presented to/George William Ely/By the Members of the New York Stock Exchange/On his resignation as Secretary/October 14, 1899." From 1874-1900 and again from 1905-1919, Ely served as Secretary of the Stock Exchange, where he was highly regarded for his knowledge of the Constitution.
