Principles of Impact (Matthew

Scripture: Psalms 46-47

Sermon: Principles of Impact
Jesus is teaching his disciples that they can and will have an impactful life; true disciples are successful in the eyes of the LORD when they have a positively impactful life on the world around them.
1. Be different. (Matthew 5:13)
1.1. Your impact on the world is directly related to how different you are from the world.
1.2. Disciples are compared to salt in that just as salt has an impact upon that which it's used, so too do His disciples have an impact upon th world.
1.2.1. Just as diluted salt tastes less salty, we become less impactful the more diluted we are by the world; we aren't told to become monks entirely, but we must live in a God-centered manner; be in the world but not of the world.
2. Be seen to be different. (Matthew 5:14-16)
2.1. You can be different, but in order to truly have an impact, you must be seen as different.
2.2. Just as a lamp is designed to shine, so too are Jesus' disciples designed to shine in the sense that their lives are reflective of God's work within them.
2.2.1. By shining in the world, non-disciples will be giving glory to God.
We are called to be kingdom ambassadors, to live in an overtly different (God-centered) manner that shows God's transformative and redemptive work within us, having a positive impact on the world and giving Him glory in the process.
