When Adelphi students collaborate, the sky is the limit. Students in senior adjunct faculty Brooks Frederick’s mural workshop class met with the Latin American and Latinx Studies program, the Latino Student Association and others on campus to design a new mural being unveiled for Hispanic Heritage Month.
The design is made stronger through collaboration, Frederick said. The eight student artists learned and discussed cultural traditions and symbology and designed a sweeping portrayal of the strong bonds in Latin culture, melding minds and merging talents. “The heart that they brought to the project was phenomenal,” Frederick said.
The Latinx Mural was created through the Department of Art and Art History Mural Arts Workshop, a course that provides art students with an experiential learning, with the support of Kellyann Monaghan, chair of the department. Financial and material support was provided by the art department and the Adelphi University Women’s Giving Circle.
