Sneshka was an orphan in Bulgaria. When we met her, she lived at the largest orphanage in the Balkan area. One Heart Bulgaria helps orphans ages 0-18 years old. Teenage orphans have unique challenges and are rarely adopted. Fifty percent of Bulgarian orphans do not live to see their 20th birthday. Of the the ones who survive, fifty percent enter into a life of prostitution and/or organized crime as a matter of survival. One Heart Bulgaria's programs provide teenage orphans with opportunities to develop their talents and learn important life skills so that they can have a happier life during their time at the orphanages and a higher chance of survival after they age out of the system.
