Many regard the brown hyena as one of the ugliest animals on earth - I personally think it is a beautiful animal.
It also has a bad rap as a livestock killer - the brown hyena is not a very effective or good hunter as it is a scavenger. It may go for something that is small enough but will not attach larger animals.
Very interestingly, even though it is not a very good hunter, it is an aggressive critter and frequently chases leopards, cheetahs and even lion.
They are not a danger to humans as long as they are not disturbed.
