Lady Gaga Sells Her “Ultimate Artist’s Retreat” for $6.45M

The pop superstar picked up the Hollywood Hills property back in 2016 for $5.25 million. It had been the longtime home of a fellow rock legend, Frank Zappa.

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has recorded a real estate sale to the model and actress Lizzie Jagger, Dirt reports. The Los Angeles mansion changed hands in a hush-hush deal for $6.45 million. According to Realtor.com®, the Hollywood Hills residence sold in August. The singer had picked up the property back in 2016 for $5.25 million. The rock star palace had been the longtime home of a fellow rock legend, Frank Zappa, who bought the Tudor-style structure in 1968 for $74,000, according to property records. Yes, you’re reading that number right. Although Zappa died in 1993, the home stayed with the eccentric composer’s family until Gaga bought it five years ago.

The mansion may have struck a chord with the “Born This Way” performer, who apparently recorded her 2020 “Chromatica” album there. The place is pretty much a performer’s paradise. It includes two recording spaces, one of which Zappa named the “Utility Muffin Research Kitchen.”

In addition, the quirky space was said to have housed the Zappa “vault,” a secret collection of music, film recordings, and family archives, Los Angeles magazine reported. Given that the home sale took place off the market, the photos we have of the home are from the Zappa era. It’s not clear how much the “House of Gucci” star (whose given name is Stefani Germanotta) changed over her six years in the storied space.

Gaga may or may not have put her stamp on the place, but the 6,700-square-foot residence is quite a sight to behold. Built in 1939, the six-bedroom home was billed as the “ultimate artist’s retreat” in 2016. The property features a rooftop tennis court, two guest cottages, an attached guest apartment, and a pool. Unique features throughout the home include porthole windows and doors salvaged from vintage submarines.

Under skylights, the bright and airy kitchen opens to a dining area. The space includes a formal dining room and a glassed living room. In addition to an office, massage room, and game room, the floor plan features all sorts of one-of-a-kind embellishments and cozy reading nooks. Set on a little over a half-acre, the lushly landscaped lot features a wild mosaic, pool, and outdoor seating areas. Just after she snapped up the place, Gaga told Howard Stern on his show, “The house is very special and magical.” She added that the sale included the late entertainer’s soundboard.

Gaga, 35, still has a swanky beach house where she can store her couture collection. Purchased in 2014 for $22.5 million, the 10,000-square-foot Malibu estate sits across from Zuma Beach, and appears as a backdrop in the Netflix documentary about the singer, “Gaga: Five Foot Two.”

As for the entertainer extraordinaire, her “Chromatica” album came out in 2020. She followed the hit record with a second duet collaboration with the crooner Tony Bennett. She is currently starring in the movie “House of Gucci.”
