Low confidence levels impact academic performance as well as quality of life. 47 percent of children with ADHD struggle with low self esteem and students with Dyslexia and other learning abilities also report low self esteem at higher rates than children that do not have a learning disability.

Studies show that 50 percent of children with ADHD also struggle with reading and that reading below grade level can have a negative impact on self esteem, self confidence, self worth, and self image.
Helping your child find an activity or hobby they can excel at (or even just be adequate at) can be a huge self esteem booster. One of the root causes of low self esteem in children with ADHD and/or dyslexia is that they constantly underperform their peers in everything academic. They are also often berated, punished or embarrassed for being hyperactive. Having something they are recognized for can counter balance the negative consequences of not being able to read at grade level or perform at grade level in other tasks.
