Jaw Crushers operate on a compression principle with a reciprocating motion. They feature a fixed jaw and a movable jaw (toggle plate mechanism). Raw materials enter the top of the crushing chamber, and as the movable jaw swings toward the fixed jaw, materials are squeezed and crushed. The crushing action is linear, suitable for primary crushing of large boulders. Once crushed, materials fall through the discharge opening at the bottom, with the final size controlled by adjusting the jaw gap.
Gyratory Crushers, meanwhile, use a vertical, gyrating motion for continuous compression. The crusher consists of a cone - shaped mantle that gyrates within a concave chamber. Materials are fed into the top and subjected to repeated compression as they move down through the narrowing gap between the mantle and concave. This rotational crushing action is ideal for high - volume primary crushing in large - scale mining operations, offering higher throughput and more uniform particle size compared to jaw crushers. The discharge opening can be adjusted hydraulically to control product size.
