This was the day upon which I returned home; starting the day in Wellington and finishing in Tauranga. Part of the journey was carried out on a train; the section from Wellington to Masterton.
After seeing a couple of Matangi units leaving Wellington, I got on the 08:21 'Wairarapa Connection' service to Masterton. DFB 7200 was doing the honours, although I was hoping to get 7348. Upon arrival at Masterton we watch 7200 getting turned on the turntable, backing down on her coaches and departing for her return trip to Wellington. There were two other locomotives in the yard when I was at the station - DSC 2379 and DFB 7267.
Once all the nonsense Masterton station was done, I spent far too much time dawdling around the town looking for a sushi shop (which we did eventually find). This resulted in us being very, very late getting home. And the delay wasn't helped by us waiting in Taumarunui for ages to get train 229, which turned out to be hauled by two electric locomotives.
