Ratcheting Binder & Handling Chains

Folks , FLATBED trucking is not for the faint of heart. Not that it is all that hard but..... some people make it harder on themselves than it needs to be. In this video I demonstrate how to make handling your chains and ratcheting binders a bit easier. Less chaotic and more organized.
1st. Before a load is set on the wagon, lay out your gear WHERE it will be needed...if at all possible.
2nd. After the load is on the wagon, start at the rear and work forward. So you don't trip on your chains or straps.
3rd. Choose a direction. When you put your chains and binders into the headache rack work in one direction. I work right to left putting the gear up. Then left to right taking it out.
WHY?????
Because as it is ,hanging up the chain s tends to stack them on top of the first chains you put in there. So grab the last chain you put in first and you don't have to fight getting it untangled.
4th. Pull the chain out half way. grasp it in the center. Then sling it out, maintaining control of the hook end. This will lay it out in a straight line. Making it easier to move it to where you need it after you have them all out.
5th. When securing the hooks, insure the chain link is being pulled INTO the mouth of the hook. I see folks all the time where the link is being pulled away from the hook. Which with all the vibration and jarring will cause it to fail.
6th. Use motor oil or transmission dope to lube the threads and spur of the binders. WD 40 is USELESS for this. A waste of time and money.
7th. When lengthening the binder (unwinding it) once open enough pre -set the spur for shortening (tightening) so you don't have to think about it.
8th. WATCH WHERE YOU STEP. The sudden stop at the bottom will get you every time.
