Mehrano A Wildlife Refuge in Khairpur

Mehrano Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Khairpur District of Pakistan province of Sindh an enhanced riverine forest privately preserved by the Talpur Mir royal family of Khairpur Princely state with endorsement by the Sindh wildlife department. It comprises agricultural land, forest, and hunting area and is home to various flora and fauna.
Mehrano Forest is home to approximately 4,000 big game animals, including blackbuck, Indian gazelle, hog deer, wild boar. Additionally the forest lake boasts resident and migratory birds from Siberia and Europe. There is a reserved place for tourists to see wild boars. Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur II, head of the royal house, has forbidden all hunting except of the jackal and an annual culling of wild boars which become a mortal threat to adjacent farmers and their families when board populations become too large for the forest to hold. The Mehrano reserve shares its boundary with the Cholistan desert.

H. H. Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur II, Head of the royal house, as long taken a keen interest in animal welfare and conservation, having established one of the largest private wildlife sanctuaries on the sub-continent.
His younger son, Prince Mehdi Raza Khan, continues his father's passion and oversees his conservation interests since retirement.

Khairpur district is located in the northern part of Sindh province. It lies between 26° 09′ and 27° 42′ North latitudes and 68° 10′ and 70° 10′ East longitudes. The district is bounded on the North by Shikarpur and Sukkur districts, on the East by India, on the South by Sanghar and Nawabshah districts and on the West by Nawabshah and Larkana districts. It is a place of tremendous historical significance for the subcontinent. The district’s history, in fact, dates back to 3300 BC, when the ancient Kot Diji—one of the oldest civilizations known to history—was a thriving civilization in the region.
