Kimera Evo38 at 2024 Geneva Motor Show

Let's dive into the story of the Evo38, a modern tribute to the Lancia 038, a car that unfortunately never saw the light of day. Imagine a car that could have been the successor to the Lancia 037, the last rear-wheel-drive vehicle to win the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 1983. The 038 aimed to elevate the competition with an all-wheel-drive system and enhanced power to take on the Audi Quattro S1. However, this vision never materialized, and the Delta S4 took over from the 037. Despite whispers of its existence, the 038 remained a phantom. Enter Kimera, aiming to fill this void with the Evo38.

Drawing inspiration from the Kimera Evo37, launched in 2021, the Evo38 steps up its performance. It introduces all-wheel drive and an extra 100 horsepower, courtesy of a bigger turbocharger and improved mechanics. This beast now roars with nearly 600 hp, managed by a fine-tuned six-speed manual gearbox for quicker shifts.

In an effort to balance added power and agility, the designers have incorporated carbon fiber and titanium, keeping the Evo38's weight around 2,425 pounds. This makes it as light as a Mazda MX-5 Miata RF or an Alpine A110S, even with the new all-wheel-drive system.

The Evo38 debuts an electrohydraulic differential, empowering drivers to adjust power flow to the wheels directly from the driver's seat. It also upgrades from the 037 in terms of suspension, boasting electronically managed shock absorbers and a lift system for convenience.

At its core, the Evo37 featured a 2.1-liter engine developed by Italtecnica, refined under the guidance of Lancia's Claudio Lombardi. The Evo38 is anticipated to offer an electronically managed sequential gearbox as an option.

Kimera is set to unveil the Evo38 at the Geneva Motor Show soon, with plans to produce just 38 units later this year. While the price is currently unknown, the Evo37 sold for €480,000 each, approximately $520,000 today, hinting at the Evo38's potential cost.

Looking ahead, Kimera teases a third model on their website, with a countdown leading to its reveal on June 22, 2024. This move signals Kimera's commitment to blending legacy with innovation, charting a new course in automotive history.
