কলকাতার খুব কাছেই একটি সতী পিঠের সন্ধান | Nandikeshwari Temple

The Nandikeswari Satipeeth Temple is located in the town of Sainthia in Birbhum district of West Bengal. It is one of the most important Satipeeths, where according to Hinduism, the neck bone or neck bone of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. The presiding goddess of this temple is Goddess Nandini and her Bhairava is Nandikeshwar.
The history of the Nandikeshwari temple is associated with the incident of Satis self-immolation at her father's DakshaYajna. Because Daksha Sati and her husband insulted Shiva. Sati Devi, unable to bear this insult from her father towards her husband, sacrificed herself with yoga. The grieving Lord Mahadev became angry and ruined Daksha's Yajna and started the worldwide flood dance with the dead body of Sati Devi on his shoulders. The other gods requested to stop this dance and Lord Vishnu cut the dead body of Sati Devi with his Sudarshan Chakra. In this, the body parts of Mother Sati fell in various places in the Indian subcontinent and became known as the holy Peethasthan (Shaktipeeth).

The current temple was built in 1913 (Bengali 1320).
The main idol of the temple is made of black stone, which is now almost red because devotees apply vermilion on the stone for prayers. The goddess has a silver crown and three golden eyes.

Here you can see some other temples, Ram-Sita Temple, Shiva Temple, Maha Saraswati Temple, Maha Lakshmi-Ganesh Temple, Lakshmi-Narayan Temple, Radha Govinda Temple, Bhairav Nandikeshwari Temple, Hanuman Temple, among others. There is a huge sacred tree where devotees tie red and yellow threads to fulfill their wishes.
