In this video, Daniel Huson and Mike Steel introduce CatReNet, a software tool for exploring and analyzing autocatalytic reaction networks. Originally developed to model chemical systems, the mathematics behind CatReNet now plays a central role in research on the origin of life, and has applications in ecology, cultural evolution, and economics.
Using a simple and intuitive example — building a house from basic materials — we demonstrate how CatReNet can detect RAF sets, explore catalytic dependencies, and illustrate key concepts like maxRAFs and maxCAFs.
Learn how complex, self-sustaining networks can emerge from simple parts — and how CatReNet helps uncover the hidden structure behind them.
