Hiza Guruma – Knee Wheel
Kuzushi (Off-Balance): Pull uke forward and slightly diagonal, making their weight shift onto one leg.
Their knee should naturally move forward — this sets up the block.
Tsukuri (Entry): Step in at an angle, staying light on your feet. Extend your foot to block uke’s knee (usually the lead leg). Your foot should touch lightly — not kicking, just blocking.
Kake (Execution): While maintaining the knee block, wheel uke forward in a circular motion. Use your hands to guide their upper body over the blocked knee. Rotate your hips for smooth momentum.
Kuzure Yoko Shiho Gatame - Modified Side Four-Corner Hold
Positioning (Base): Sit beside uke, chest to chest, at right angles to their body. Maintain a wide base with knees and hips down for stability.
Head-Side Control: Instead of the classic Yoko Shiho Gatame grip, you use a modified hold: One arm controls around uke’s head/neck. The other arm controls under their far arm, gripping their belt, armpit, or gi.
Hip-Side Control: Keep your hips low to stop uke from turning in. Apply shoulder pressure into their chest or jawline (controlled, not aggressive). Spread your legs for balance—front knee near their head, back leg extended.
