On July 1st, I officially became a second-year Med-Peds resident — an "upper level." But before stepping into this new role, I had to survive one of the most grueling years of my life: intern year.
In this video, I reflect on the emotional, mental, and physical challenges I faced during my PGY-1, and I share the three biggest lessons I learned — the hard way. From unrealistic expectations about studying, to the burnout that comes with blurred boundaries, and the painful consequences of neglecting self-care, I open up about my journey in a dual-specialty residency that almost broke me.
Whether you're a current or future intern, IMG, Med-Peds resident, or just someone curious about what this life is really like, I hope my experiences can help guide, validate, or encourage you through your own path.
💬 Let me know in the comments: What did you learn during intern year?
🩺 For Med-Peds and IMG Residents:
This one’s especially for you. Intern year hits differently when you're doing two specialties and adjusting to a new system. You're not alone.
