Durham University Canoe Club headed to the Alps this Summer of 2024 to kayak the Alps! We were hopeful for more water as we arrived in early June instead of mid/late June, and oh we got a lot more water (the most water the region had seen in over 30 year from what the locals said)! Kept it simple this year running most of the classics which were a lot bigger volume than the previous years:
Sunshine run (Durance), Gyronde (upper and middle), The Upper and Lower Guil. We ran some different rivers, the Drac and Drac Blanc and found our favourite due to the river, scenery and secrecy of the gorged river called La Souloise. We managed climbing and Via Ferrata over Château Q and the end of the Durance gorge, didn't get to do the classic canyoning due to the levels of water!
Overall, an incredible trip with incredible people, chill vibes, great food, paddling and memories to have forever!
