秦氏とは、どんな人たちでしょうか？

古代に、朝鮮半島から渡来した氏族。『日本書紀』によると、応神天皇条に秦の始皇帝の子孫という伝承をもつ、弓月君（ゆづきのきみ）が多数の民を率いて渡来したことに始まります。

「秦」は、古代朝鮮語で「海」の意味であり，実際は5世紀中頃に新羅から渡来した氏族集団と考えられます。山城国葛野郡太秦あたりを本拠とし，日本の近畿一帯に強い地盤をきづきました。

　秦氏にはいろいろな伝承があり，代表的なものは雄略天皇の頃，族長の秦酒公（はたのさけきみ）が全国に分散していた180種の「勝」(すぐり)を集めました。

ここでの「勝」は、部族や集団を指します。

　そして、秦酒公（はたのさけきみ）は、調、庸、の絹を、うずたかく盛り、朝廷に献上して兎豆麻佐(うずまさ)の姓を与えられました。京都の「太秦」の地名もこれに由来すると言われています。

Who were the Hata clan?

The Hata clan were an ancient group that migrated from the Korean Peninsula. According to the “Nihon Shoki,” their origins trace back to Yuzuki no Kimi, a descendant of Qin Shi Huang, who led many people to Japan during the reign of Emperor Ōjin.

The term “Hata” means “sea” in ancient Korean, and it is believed that they actually migrated from Silla around the mid-5th century. They established their base in Uzumasa, Kadono District, Yamashiro Province, and built a strong presence throughout the Kinki region of Japan.

The Hata clan has various legends associated with them. One notable story from the era of Emperor Yūryaku involves the clan leader, Hata no Sakekimi, who gathered 180 different “Katsu” (tribes or groups) dispersed across the country.

Hata no Sakekimi then presented a large amount of silk as tribute to the imperial court and was granted the surname Uzumasa. The place name “Uzumasa” in Kyoto is said to derive from this event.
