「”北運河”　—小樽運河のもう一つのロマン」North Canal ～ Another Romance　

北海道・小樽運河の北のエリアは、「北運河」と呼ばれています。浅草橋・中央橋周辺の南のエリアに比べ、訪れる人はまばらですが、北運河には、国指定重要文化財の格調高い石造建築物や、レトロ感いっぱいの倉庫群など、見どころがたくさんあります。いわば、小樽運河の穴場的エリア。運河は1980年代に半分が埋め立てられましたが、北運河は、埋め立て前の面影を色濃く残し、明治から大正時代に港湾都市として発展した小樽の雰囲気を感じ取ることができます。
まるでヨーロッパの宮廷のような国指定重要文化財・「旧日本郵船小樽支店」、小樽市指定歴史的建造物の「旧北海製缶倉庫群」の情景を動画にしてみました。「旧日本郵船小樽支店」は、故中山美穂さんの映画「Love Letter」の名場面としてロケ地になった美しい洋館です。また、倉庫群の中では、特に「旧北海製缶第3倉庫」が印象的で、小樽運河の象徴の1つです。

The northern area of ​​the Otaru Canal in Hokkaido is called the "North Canal." Compared to the southern area around Asakusabashi and Chuobashi, the area is less visited, but the North Canal has many attractions, such as elegant stone buildings designated as national important cultural properties and a group of retro warehouses. In other words, it is a hidden gem of the Otaru Canal. Half of the canal was filled in in the 1980s, but the North Canal still retains its appearance before the filling, and you can feel the atmosphere of Otaru, which developed as a port city from the Meiji to Taisho eras.
I made a video of the scenery of the "Former Nippon Yusen Otaru Branch," a national important cultural property that looks like a European palace, and the "Former Hokkai Canning Warehouses," a historic building designated by Otaru City. The "Former Nippon Yusen Otaru Branch" is a beautiful Western-style building that was used as a location for a famous scene in the movie "Love Letter" starring the late Miho Nakayama. Among the warehouses, the former Hokkai Cannery No. 3 Warehouse is particularly impressive and is one of the symbols of the Otaru Canal.
