Here's something fairly different for my channel.
An old Ampico Piano roll from 1921, played back on a custom Steingraeber piano from Pianoteq 6 that I've tuned to 435 Hz.
"THE STORY OF THE PIECE
Helen Cashman Mitchell has written some sincere and fervent verses which find all their devotion and order renewed in the beautiful setting Mr. Densmore has brought to them. His music has not only a lovely flowing melody but fitting and tasteful climaxes and a richness of accompaniment that sets it apart amongst songs of its type. Mr. Fairchild has played it superbly."
There are possibly wrong words in that, but it's the best I could read of the roll. Not much is left of it.
Ballad - E Flat
Here's my closest reading I could see of the lyrics:
"If all this world were made a desert place
And God left only you:
I still could greet the dawn with eager face,
if God left only you.
If God left you and placed your hand in mine,
And sent us forth, alone, to meet the bay
I know I would not care how slow the time,
I would not care if skies were gray:
For in your [boiet?] eyes I'd find repose
And in your tender soul, a love so true:
I would not mind the coldest wind that blows:
If God left only you!"
I found the song quite charming and it reminded me of the many recordings I have of Tiny. I couldn't find much of it online apart from a Francis Alda record ( • If God Left Only You )
I have no more info.
Enjoy! Keep That Hi-De-Ho In Your Soul!
