From GoWild Flight to Condo Owner in Honduras

I visited San Pedro Sula, Honduras on a complete whim.

Frontier Airlines had just launched new flights, and as a GoWild member, I grabbed a cheap, last-minute ticket with no real plan. Once I booked it, I realized… I probably should figure out what I’m doing when I get there.

Before I even arrived, I started casually browsing real estate. That’s when Hugo Perdomo from RE/MAX reached out and offered to show me around the city. I was skeptical at first—San Pedro Sula has a reputation—but having a local guide felt like the smart move.

The very next day (on a Sunday), Hugo met me and took me around. Neighborhoods, city layout, local context—things you never get from headlines. One of the stops was Zorzales del Merendón, a new two-tower residential project under construction.

The name says a lot:

Zorzales = country birds

Merendón = the mountain range that defines the city

The project stood out for its location, construction quality, and design:

Post-tension slab construction (important in earthquake-prone regions)

Six-inch perimeter block walls for quieter, cooler, more efficient living

Backup generator and water cistern

Levels 1–3 parking, level 4 social area with pool

Strategic southwest location with lower traffic and easy access

I ended up choosing a 14th-floor end unit, which means views of both the city and the Merendón Mountains, plus extra windows and light.

What surprised me most was the experience itself. Hugo went above and beyond—mall visits, drinks at the Hilton, dinner at Tito’s Restaurant with views overlooking the city and the construction site. Somewhere along the way, this stopped feeling like a real estate tour and started feeling like a friendship.

A few days after landing on a cheap flight… I agreed to buy a condo.

Not planned. Not expected. But sometimes the best decisions start exactly like that.
