The different varieties of the Persian language used by Iranian Jewry is referred to as "Judeo-Persian". This talk concerns the evolution of the Judeo-Persian language and literature from the advent of Islam to the rise of the Safavids (7th-16th centuries), with an emphasis on the extensive literary production in Judeo-Persian in its wider Jewish and Isalmic contexts.
Ofir Haim is a Fulbright postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Near Eastern Studies, Princeton University. His research interests centre on the social and intellectual history of pre-Mongol Iran, particularly its Jewish minority. Ofir’s recent publications include: “Acknowledgment deeds (iqrārs) in Early New Persian from the Area of Bāmiyān (395-430 AH/1005-1039 CE)”, Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society 29/3 (2019) and “The Early Judeo-Persian Manuscripts in the British Library and in the National Library of Russia: A Unified Textual Corpus?”, Intellectual History of the Islamicate World 9/1-2 (2020).

Présentation du Cycle: Dès le début de la diaspora, les juifs vivaient dans un monde plurilingue. Dans la vie quotidienne, les juifs utilisaient les langues vernaculaires de leur entourage non-juif, souvent imprégnées du vocabulaire hébreu. Elles furent ensuite mises par écrit en caractères hébreux. Ce cycle de quinze conférences par des spécialistes de renommée internationale présente une partie de ces « judéo-langues » et la richesse de leur histoire et de leur tradition littéraire.
