After much delay, the Delhi and District Association (DDCA)’s 40-over League was inaugurated on Wednesday by the President Rohan Jaitley at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground amid the presence of the association’s office-bearers and officials.
The league, usually inaugurated in October was delayed, as the T20 league from last year was not completed. Poor scheduling on the part of association is to blame as they had too much on their plate for a season. After the 40-over league and the Hot Weather was completed, the DDCA got busy with the month-long Delhi Premier League T20 tournament.
Post that, that is late September, the unfinished T20 league had to be restarted and Delhi’s BCCI tournaments’ commitments were to be undertaken which took away all the contention.
The biggest concern the DDCA will be the completion of the league this year.
DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma, however, announced that the association will look to have two-day games in a part of the league from this season.
“We are planning to have two-day matches in Super League later this season. The top four teams of each of the nine pools will play these two-day games towards the end of the league,” said Sharma.
It should be noted that President Jaitley has talked about multi-day format for two-three years now but due to the number of matches, this hasn’t been possible.
The inaugural match of the DDCA League was played on Wednesday between Bright Cricket Club and Delhi Colts with the former winning by 137 runs following centuries from Raman Rana and Rushal Saini and a four-wicket haul from Saba Karim.
