Do you know the poorest cities in the UK? If you consider the basis for our ranking of cities in the UK, you’ll agree 100 percent that these cities are among the poorest. The ranking is based on the gross disposable household income (GDHI) of the city. GDHI defines the amount of money the individuals in homes in a city earn after tax and benefits. So please enjoy this video and don’t forget to comment.
FIVE. Bradford
Bradford. Let’s start with a brief reminder about this city. Bradford is a city in West Yorkshire England. You don’t need to be told that the 5 poorest cities in the UK listed here are all in England. Bradford became a municipal borough in 1847 and received a city charter 50 years later in 1897.
Bradford faces significant economic challenges making it one of the 5 poorest places to live in the UK. Consider the poverty and deprivation rates in Bradford, you’ll realize that it’s one of the highest.
FOUR. Kingston upon Hull
Kingston upon Hull. This is a unitary authority area in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Also known simply as Hull, this port city lies upon the River Hull.
But we’re more concerned with its title as one of the 5 poorest cities in the UK. The loss of fishing and shipping industries has resulted in a significant industrial decline.
THREE. Coventry
This city on the River Sherbourne had been a large settlement for centuries. It is an ancient city founded in the early Middle Ages.
We include Coventry as one of the 5 poorest cities in the UK due to several factors. The industrial decline in the city is obvious.
Looking at infrastructure and investment, the city is not doing any better because there is limited investment there.
TWO. Leicester
Leicester is a city and unitary authority area in the East Midlands of England.
Leicester is the second poorest city in the United Kingdom. According to the Indices of Deprivation, it ranks among the most deprived areas in England.
Figures from the 2021 census which revealed areas across Leicestershire that are the most deprived, show Leicester topping the list, with 639 households labeled as deprived in four major determining categories. More precisely, the gross disposable income per head in Leicester is 14,266 pounds.
ONE. Nottingham
Nottingham, a city and unitary authority area in Nottinghamshire in East Midlands, England.
Nottingham has experienced a 16 percent point increase, as 40 percent of children live in child poverty. In fact, as of April 2022, 18 percent of children were impacted by the two-child limit.
The gross disposable income per head in Nottingham is 13,952 pounds. This is the lowest in the UK.
