Italian Island Adventure- Ischia, diving for sea urchin!

Ischia, most people never hear much less visit this beautiful Island just off of Naples. It lives in the shadow of its neighbor Capri... Though in my opinion I enjoyed Ischia more! There is such a fun small town true italian feel to this island. So much delicious food, & lots of VERY local sea urchin! One of my top memories from our summer in italy was our first encounter with eating sea urchin.

My husband & I were out swimming by our favorite rocks out at sea. We'd swim out there daily to tan & relax in the middle of the crystal clear water. As we were headed back we saw a couple eating something, straight out of the water. As we came up closer we saw it was sea urchin. Our jaws dropped! We had only eaten this as very high end restaurants, but here was a simple italian couple enjoying this delicacy in their swimsuits. We floated closer & the couple noticed us. In natural italian fashion the man calls us over to try some. It was extraordinary! Though we barely spoke the same language, this couple opened us up to a whole new world of dining in italy!

If you are ever in italy grab a pair of goggles & a knife & go eat some delicious sea urchins!
