August 2 — Best day of the swell run so far. Sandy’s was firing this morning — sunny skies, thumping shorebreak, and just enough energy to keep things heavy without the chaos of yesterday’s wash-through sets. There’ve been moments all week, but today had the most consistent combo of size, shape, and opportunity. The backwash never really let up and actually got more violent as the day went on, but that didn’t stop some clean lines from sneaking through. Currents were still moving, but not as hectic as earlier in the swell. Even a monk seal rolled up to post up on the beach and watch the show. With the sandbar holding and smaller surf on tap for Sunday and Monday, we’re lining up for some classic conditions at the home of bodyboarding — and there’s more swell on the way. Looks like the summer gods are wide awake.
