THE PRIME.
The VPI Prime offers isolation feet with four pointed cones mounted to the bottom of the table with a pliable material. The tips of the cones sit in a round puck that has bearings on the top where they contact the feet and on the bottom where they contact your cabinet surface. This unique design provides superior acoustical isolation.
The motor is in a cylindrical Aluminum housing weighing over 5 Lbs. It sits to the side of the table, providing complete isolation. The 20lb platter is made out of aluminum and damping materials, 39 inches in circumference, both the pully and platter are machined to very tight tolerances. There is an impressive inverted bearing with a hardened stainless-steel shaft and Rockwell chrome-hardened ball subbing in a phosphor bronze bushing, all sitting on a PEEK thrust disc.
The Prime’s 10” 3D tonearm is all one piece thanks to 3D printing utilizing anti-resonant epoxy. Ideally suited to doing its job, and a fine value at this price point.
The tonearms unipivot design is free to move around in all directions and only has one bearing. One of the most friction-free bearings around, allowing your phono cartridge to do its job. The unipivot bearing has two side outriggers to fine-tune its level position.
This 3D tonearm features a fully adjustable VTA (vertical tracking angle). By adjusting the knob at the top of the VTA tower the VTA can be adjusted on the fly.
THE PRIME SIGNATURE.
The Signature offers an upgraded advanced tonearm that is finished in Metalic Gloss Black and gets the Nordost Reference wire.
The motor housing is upgraded to stainless steel. The heavier metal providing better control of vibration and noise.
The plinth uses an aluminum plate in the center of 2 MDF sections. This heavier construction utilizes the 2 materials for extraordinary damping and resonance control. The feet are upgraded to those used on the Classic Signature for a more substantial support and four stainless-steel corner posts for mechanical grounding.
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
Both tables punch above their weight class. The same characteristics in both turntables are present yet more refined and fine-tuned in the Prime Signature. The sound is warm and rich with luscious tonalities and vast openness. A deep soundstage allows the musicians to appear in the front and center just beyond your listening position. Dead-quiet black backgrounds, reference-grade imaging, and unshakable speed stability that nails the pacing, timing, and balance with spot-on precision. This is what allows hours to pass in a short time as disc after disc gets spun. Before you know it you're in love all over again.
