It is located at Giumarra Vineyards in Edison, Ca. USA, at MP 319.6 with Tehachapi east 40.9 rail miles, and Bakersfield west 6 rail miles. Kern Jct., where BNSF merges with this Union Pacific line and shares it to Mojave is 6 miles west of here.

Edison was originally known as Wade. A siding was established there around 1885.

In 1902 the Edison Company began construction of Kern River Hydroelectric plant #1 in the lower Kern River gorge. It was about that time that the name of the station of Wade was changed to Edison. Edison became the delivery point for construction materials for the hydroelectric plant.

History of Giumarra:

Perhaps the most memorable recollection of "Papa" Joe Giumarra's youth was the procession of Carrattas carting the grapes of Ragusa, Sicily, Italy from the vineyards to the winery.

These grandiose wagons abounded with lush hand-picked grapes that were the symbol and the celebration of Harvest Day. The art that was meticulously carved and hand painted on every surface of the carretta told the story of the Sicilian people, their history, traditions, hopes and
dreams.

When "Papa" Joe came to the Americas in the early 1900's with his father, he started his new
life by selling fruit from a pushcart in Toronto. His first dream was realized by the arrival of his
mother, brothers Fred, George and John, and sister Estherina from Sicily, and their subsequent
relocation to Los Angeles, California.

"Papa" Joe's second dream became a reality when his savings afforded him a few acres of
rich farm land at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He knew then that the fertile
San Joaquin Valley was ideal for growing premium fruit, even superior to the grapes of his
youth. The family relocated to Bakersfield, CA, and has been growing table grapes there
ever since.
