Whitney has had a large cut under her toe for several weeks. The skin was ripped by the forces put on the tissue while doing gymnastics. Now those same forces are what’s keeping the wound from healing. Whitney is currently right in the middle of competition season so it is not an optimal time to take time off from gymnastics. Whitney’s doctors determined that stitching the wound and taking 10 days off of training would still not be enough to keep the wound from opening back up. As a result, the plan is to keep the wound clean, continue to trim the callous tissue, and splint the toe when she does beam and vault. As a side note, it is never a good idea to eat a wad of wasabi when your dad dares you to do it!
