It took me a lot of patent and internet research in addition to many tries and hours of time to get a nice looking stream. Don't give up, once you get that beautiful arch of laminar water it is very gratifying. Thanks to The University of Tulsa Machine Shop (Dave and Terry) and the ENS Dean for sponsoring the fountain.
