Have you forget to turn on a symmetry? Vertex order cannot be changed, UVs are done? I used to be tedious task to resymmetrize a model. Not anymore, there's a simple tool in Maya for that. I'll also show you how to symmetrize UVs and how to copy non-symmetrical detail to other side of your model without changing UVs or vertex order.
