On November 9, 2024 the 4x4’s met at the Shell Gas Station at 8:10 AM and departed at 8:30 AM. Dale Terwedo lead the group and Chico & Lori Garcia served as tail gunner. The rigs arrived at the air down location and soon after arrived at the Turkey Creek trailhead. Dale asked everyone to shift into low gear and enjoy the ride. After a momentary stop to ensure everyone was in Low gear the group proceeded down the trail. There were constant up and down climbs that were super fun. When on the ridge lines, the drivers could see the vistas below and the mighty Bradshaw Mountains surrounded the trail. Not long into the ride, a stop was made to visit one of many mines on this trail. On the mountain located across the wash the group noticed that the very top of the mountain did not look natural. A pair of binoculars revealed that there were huge stone structures that had over the millennia fallen into disrepair. However, it was clear that portions of the walls were still standing. Even from our distance to the structure, the walls were quite tall. The trail continued through the mountains and every time a hill or ridge line was crested, the group was "wowed" by the scenery. The rigs maneuvered across rocky washes, tight turns, and a few steps all of which were fun to do. Finally the drivers arrived at the shelf road. One of our riders helped spot everyone across this section with ease. Lots of photographs and videos were taken at this spot. Soon the rigs arrived at a nice shady lunch stop underneath a large growth of cottonwoods. The breeze was perfect and it felt great to sit in the shade. After lunch the group continued to make their way towards Cleator. Many more washes and just as many climbs were completed. As the group climbed higher and higher into the Bradshaw's the expanse of the desert was revealed and not a house was to be seen in any directions as far as the eyes can see. A few minutes past 2:00 PM the rigs arrived in Cleator where a quick stop was made to enjoy a cold drink at the Cleator Yacht Club. A drive on the dusty dirt road of Senator Highway brought the group back to the location where they aired down that morning.
