How have operating systems evolved over the last few years? What is it that makes building operating systems so hard – and does AI have a role to play in helping engineers? And how will the study of computing systems evolve in future?
In this interview, filmed at the 2025 ACACES summer school in Fiuggi, HiPEAC delved into this complex topic with operating-systems whisperer Timothy Roscoe (ETH Zürich). Along the way, we learn how what computer scientists and engineers create is being embedded in power relations, and why it's important to start thinking about the implications of this.
